Gustav’s roots trace back to 1963, when Chef Horst Mager opened Der Rhinelander in Portland. Years later, the first Gustav’s opened next door—growing into a group of beloved local restaurants.

As locations closed over time, one remained. Today, Gustav’s in Vancouver is proudly carrying the tradition forward with the same spirit of hospitality and classic German fare.

We're still serving up the classics—crispy schnitzel, hearty cabbage rolls, slow-roasted rotisserie favorites, and hausmade spätzle. And of course, the legendary 1963 Rhinelander fondue remains a guest favorite.

At the bar, the bier is cold and the taps are plenty, pouring a rotating lineup of German favorites ready for a proper Prost!
